Spending the Day @ Cuyamaca Rancho State Park (Paso Picacho Campground)

Fall is here and what a great time to visit our local mountains for a day of fun! The plan is to go up for the day and hang out at Paso Picacho Campground. They have a Day Use area that we can use for nominal cost of $8.00 per vehicle. Each picnic area has a table and a BBQ so bring your favorite burger or hot dog to cook up. I will bring my propane stove and a couple of pots in case anyone wants to warm something up or make some coffee or tea. There are some great short trails nearby including two that will take you up to a peak for great views. I believe there is also a nature trail for something a bit milder. I have no set plan except to eat, relax and do a short hike. I have a football that I will bring to throw around if anyone is interested. Other things to do include photography, reading, playing cards or just enjoying nature. So what to bring? 1.) Jacket 2.) Good walking or hiking shoes 3.) A hat for the sun 4.) A camping chair 5.) Food 6.) Favorite beverage 7.) Sunscreen 8.) Charcoal for grilling 9.) A cooler 10.) Eating and drinking utensils 11.) A positive attitude and a willingness to mingle with other CFers Of course if it is raining the event will be canceled and I would check the weather to make sure you know what to expect temperature-wise. Directions: Go East on the I-8 to Highway 79. Get off on Highway 79 and go North to Paso Picacho Campground. If I were you, I would do a mapquest (or something like that) using this address to get you to the general area: 13652 Highway 79 Julian, CA 92036 There are other ways of getting here from North County by using the 67 but I will leave that to you to figure out. Moonlight Clean Up

Comb the beach, searching the shoreline for trash which threatens to be swept out to sea by the incoming tide. Key targets are the SMALL pieces of trash (plastic wrappers, bottle caps, cigarette butts, etc) and other tiny pieces that marine and land animals may mistake for food and ingest. In an attempt to conserve resources and reduce the use of plastics PLEASE bring gardening or work gloves and your own reusable bag or bucket. This also helps limit what ends up at the garbage dump. However, should you not have such items, latex gloves and plastic bags will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers. Wear closed toed shoes and bring Suntan Lotion. Stay hydrated and bring a reusable water bottle as there's a water fountain nearby. (There are also restroom facilities at Moonlight). Hand sanitizer will be provided. Turn it into a day at the beach. Pack along your beach gear and after the clean up, stay and enjoy a beautiful day on a clean beach! Bring your camera, snap some pictures of your findings and post them on the Meet Up website! PLEASE bring as many friends as you like, the more the merrier! All volunteers are welcome to participate and must sign a liability waiver, but volunteers under 18 MUST have a parent or guardian sign the waiver before the minor can participate. Adopt-a-Lagoon Project

Batiquitos Lagoon is a coastal wetland north of San Diego between the cities of Encinitas and Carlsbad. It is one of the few remaining tidal wetlands on the Southern California coast. Over the course of the year we will be working together with the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation to restore the lagoon back to its native ecosystem by clearing invasive species, weeding, planting, creating signage and fencing, bird counting and water sampling. Come and join us, our lagoon needs you!
